Cellular For Seniors
  Helping a Senior Go Wireless

Help your parents or an older friend set up wireless service. There are many ways you can assist:

  • BUY THEM A PHONE AND SET UP THEIR PLAN:
Purchase a phone, get them started, and they can take care of the plan payments themselves. If you sign them up for an account that requires a contract, you'll need to get their permission and provide their Social Security Number. Better, consider one of many Pay-As-You-Go plans.

  • ADD A SENIOR TO YOUR FAMILY PLAN:
A current wireless customer can add a phone to their own wireless plan for a senior friend or relative for as little as $10 a month. The senior shares the monthly minutes and, in most cases, you can call each other without any per-minute charges at all. If the family subscribes to a "Push-to-Talk" plan, each member of the family to call another with the push of just one button, nationwide.

  • GET YOUR SENIOR A SEPARATE ACCOUNT, BILLED TO YOU:
You hand them a phone and show them how to use it. Their usage won't affect your own service. You can get them a new phone, or a get a new one for yourself and give your Senior your old phone, or re-activate one of your older phones. You handle the bills and can choose whether the account is Prepaid, Postpaid, added to a company account or a Shared plan. Bills can be automatically paid with your credit card or checking account, and most accounts can be managed online.

  • SET UP A PREPAID WIRELESS PHONE FOR A SENIOR AND YOU REFILL IT:
You can buy it, manage usage, and refill it, all online, and your Senior doesn't need to remember it. We can provide you with Discount Prepaid Refills or you can set it up to charge a credit card or checking account automatically.

  • GIVE YOUR OLD PHONE TO A SENIOR:
You can set it up with one of the methods shown above, or, at the least, any modern digital phone can be used to call 911 in a true life or death emergency, as outlined in FREE, Emergency-Only Cellular Service, Below.

  • MAKE A RECOMMENDATION:
Check our Suggestions & Recommendations and guide a Senior through the steps.

  • IS YOUR SENIOR ON A GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM?
They could be eligible for a subsidized wireless phone with a FREE or very low cost wireless plan. Check our LifeLine Page to see if they qualify.

Strategies to keep in touch at the lowest price.

  • Switch to a Cheaper Wireless Plan:
If you're already a wireless customer ask your current carrier for a cheaper plan. You already know how many Minutes or Data you use. Ask for a plan that fits your usage better and inquire about any 'Senior' plans. You may qualify for inexpensive "LifeLine" service from your current carrier.

  • Switch to Prepaid:
There are many ways to switch your phone to a much cheaper Prepaid plan, and, in most cases, you can use your current phone. Once you've decided to switch, the new carrier will do all the work for you. Here are some examples:

    • You're paying Verizon $40 per month (plus taxes and fees!) just for Talk and Text. You can switch the phone to Page Plus and get 250 Minutes and 250 Texts for only $12 a month (plus tax), or add 500 Mb of Data to the same phone for a total of only $30/mo.

    • You're paying AT&T $90 per month for several features including Internet and email access. You can switch that same phone to Straight Talk Wireless and get Unlimited Talk, Text, Internet and 411 for just $45 a month (taxes are charged but the rate depends on where you live) using the same networks. There are ways to get discounts even on that rate.

    • Similar conversions are available if you have a Sprint or T-Mobile phone. Complete switching instructions are available at Mountain Prepaid.

  • FREE Wireless!
Yes, you can find wireless service at Little or NO cost. Of course there are limits, but FREE wireless does exist. There are multiple choices so there's no reason to be un-connected unless you want. You may be able to benefit from a government-supported program or something as simple as a friend's leftover phone. Go to our FREE Wireless Page.

  • More Cheaper Wireless Resources
There's a whole web page dedicated to negotiating, switching or sneaking your way to a lower wireless bill.
